Three days since the last show, I have had two all nighters (one Emo, one Drum & Bass) & a folk gig to work while the Japanese contingent have been fishing...it’s so unfair...I should have been a rock star rather than a sound guy! Although to be fair there’s probably more money in sound work these days.
最後のライブから3日オフ。その間２日オールナイトのイベント（一つはエモバンド、一つはドラムンベース）と１日フォークソングのイベントとに日本からの珍客が釣り三昧の間、ずっと仕事。あんまりだ。昔は俺もロックスターだったのに（ドライブってバンドで日本でも人気だったんだぜ）でも今の方が稼げてるからいいや。

Anyways, Kazuto came back to crash at mine on Sunday & come Monday Aki & James 2 showed up around lunchtime to load up & head for Exeter. The show is another late addition to the tour. We’re at the Cavern which is a great little venue, just the sort of place where EES feel right at home.
とにかく日曜の夜にカズトが帰って来て、月曜の昼にアキとジェームズが機材を積みにやって来た。さあ、ツアー再開。今日はウェールズ近くのExeterへ。今日も直前ブッキングのライブだったけど、Cavern Clubは何回もやってるクラブでEESもお気に入り。

After soundcheck we get fed & whilst James & I are having an important discussion on the quality or otherwise of the chips on offer Aki makes the shock announcement that he doesn’t care about chips!! Worse still he claims that to Japanese people all chips are the same!! Jesus Christ what kinda culture was he brought up in. We built an Empire on the humble chip (actually I’m not really sure of the chronology here but you get the point). Next thing you know he’ll be saying all tea is the same.
サウンドチェック後にジェームズとチップス（ポテトね）について重要な討論してる時にアキが衝撃の発言！チップスなんてなんでも構わないって！「日本人に取ってチップスなんてどれもいっしょやん」だと！何てこったい！一体どんな暮らし方してんだ！どんな文化の育み方してんだ！そのうち奴らはきっと「紅茶なんてどれも一緒やん」って言い出すんだぜ！

I found this revelation so disturbing that I remember little of the rest of the night...show went well, good crowd, sold a buncha merch, that kinda thing.
失礼、興奮してしまった。あまりに興奮しすぎて他の事忘れちゃった。いやライブはよかったよ。たしか。マーチャンもがんがん売れたし。どうでもええけど。

We got to leave the gear in the venue over night which is always a good thing. Tomorrow we head for Portsmouth where we will be joined by our fledgling merch bitch Jake which means I no longer have to sell the shirts n stuff...Joy!
機材はそのまま置きっぱなしで朝積む事に。最高。明日はポーツマスで物販担当ジェイクが合流、ってことはTシャツ売らなくてええちゅうことやん。やった！

昨日は釣りキチたちに交じってロンドン郊外のギルフォードという街に行って来ました。
i went to fish yesterday with Aki and his fishing friends, Shota and Yuko to Guildford.

勿論、朝５時起床。釣りキチだ。5時45分待ち合わせでちょっと待たせたら、すげえ嫌そうな感じ。釣りキチだ。でもそのお陰でじゃーん。朝一発目、待望の初フィッシュ！
I awoke up at 5 (Aki was 4) and went there around 7 and then start ! i got a pike !

森本社長がよく釣ってるパイクの中型サイズ。一人でオロオロ。泥んこにしてしまった。ごめん。その後、わりとすぐ社長直伝の「てくトロ」でパーチをゲット！
っとここまでは調子がよかったものの、日が上がってくるにつれ、どんどんあたりが少なくなって来た。それでも皆でキャナルを行進しながら、小さいパーチをちょこちょこ。
nobody was not around me, so i was a bit panicking alone. the fish went to muddy. sorry, fish. after that i got a good perch with trawling. then sun was getting higher, the contacts from fish was getting less. going down the canal i got a few tiny perch.

お昼もさっさとマクドナルドで済ませたら川の下流へ移動。しかしこれが全く釣れなくなって来た。釣りキチたちがは機嫌悪し。夕方になって移動するかどうか迷って、結局元の場所に戻り再挑戦。ここでちょっと大きめ用の仕掛けにしてもらったら、あたりは増えたものの全くかからず。俺の腕がわるいのもあるだろうけど、一本も上げれず。残念。でもちいさなパーチが追いかけてくるのが目の前で何回か観れて楽しかった。
having quick lunch in Mac'donald(they didn't totally care food !), we went down the canal but nothing happen. Final challenge at evening, we went back to the first place but i didn't get anything. but i saw some small perch chasing my lure sometimes.

結局、５尾。予想以上だったし満足。やっぱり釣れると楽しいなあ。でも釣りキチたちは明日の４時起き。やはりそれには付いていけない。
at the end, i got 1pike and 4perch. i was very enjoyed fishing. it is fun if you get fish. but fishing crazies will go tomorrow from 4 mooring tomorrow… i can't !

We’ve had a couple of days off since Mansfield. Aki has serviced the van (with a little help from AutoDan) & been fishing, Kazuto has been out flyering for the 100 Club show & I’ve been working elsewhere & watching Surrey get absolutely slaughtered at the Oval. The season will be over by the time this tour finishes...just as well really, Surrey have been appalling again this year. I may have to start supporting Hanshin Tigers instead...if only Baseball wasn’t so pointless & tedious!

マンズフィールドから二日間お休み。アキは機材車をメンテに出しに行く以外は朝も有も釣り三昧。カズトはロンドン市内に100クラブのライブ告知ポスターを貼りに行き、ぼかあ、他のエンジニアの仕事を一日、一日はクリケットを観に行って声を枯らして応援。ツアー終わる頃にはシーズンが終わってるからね。今年は応援してるサリーもダメだったからなあ。来年からは阪神タイガースを応援しようかなあ。野球興味ないけど。

The Birmingham show was another late addition to the tour so thanks to our promoter Murray for organising such a good night at very short notice.

本日のバーミンガムでのライブもぎりぎりブッキングで心配したけど、こんな素晴らしいオーガナイズをしてくれたモリーに感謝だね。

The venue was the Hare & Hounds in King’s Heath.  It’s a great venue above the pub & surprisingly big with a good PA. It seems to mainly do funk & soul at the moment but Murray is planning to put more rock in there which would be cool as it’s a good room & anyway Birmingham has always been a rock n roll town.

ベニューはバーミンガム郊外のキングス・ヒースという街にある、Hare & Houndsというベニュー。普通のパブの上のなんてことないベニューと思いきや、かなりデカイ立派なステージとちゃんとしたPA。どうやらファンク、ソウル系が多く出てるベニューみたいだけど、モリーはどんどんロックバンドを出して行きたいと思ってるようで最高。何時の世もバーミンガムはイギリス一のロックタウンだからね。
We had a great show with a really cool crowd. I always love going to see or work at shows in Brum ‘cos the crowds are always really enthusiastic...they actually cheer for an encore rather than standing around & waiting as so often happens in London!
特に今日はオーディエンスが凄くてライブも最高でしたぜ。いつもバーミンガムでのショーは楽しみなんだ。なんてったってオーディエンスが熱狂的だからね。ロンドンのオーディエンスみたいにただ突っ立ってアンコールを待つんじゃなくて、大騒ぎだったからね。
After the show we got lost looking for our Travelodge. We thought it was the usual problem with travel lodges that they are really shy hotels...they are often hidden around corners with very dark signs unlike say E Taps which whore their wares for miles around with their garish blue neon signs.

ライブ終了後、宿泊はトラベロッジ。いつもトラベロッジってサインが見えずらい所にあって探すのに難儀するんだ。なんか影に隠れてるコーナーだったり、サインが薄暗かったり、Eタップみたいに毒々しい青色のサインがすっごい遠くからでも見えるのとは正反対。

This one was different though & we missed it because it was so unexpectedly brazen standing right on the corner of a main road flashing it’s sign like a cheap hooker.
しかし今回のはいつもと違ってたのにも関わらず見逃してしまった。なぜなら普段かくれてるのに、今回はメインストリートに堂々と建っていて、赤提灯のようにギラギラのサインがあったので始めから目もくれなかったんだよ、逆にね。

Inside it was the same old travel lodge experience so we got some kip & then got up early as I have work in London tonight mixing terrible emo bands.
中は普段と全く同じトラベロッジ。就寝して次の日ロンドンでしょーもないエモバンドのPAやらなければならない僕の為に、皆朝早く起きてくれて出発。

Stopped for a full English in Banbury at a little tea shop where the charming staff made us feel really unwelcome...not sure they like Johnny foreigner in middle England!
バンバリーという街に立ち寄ってちゃんとイングリッシュブレックファーストを食べようと店に入ったら、またチャーミングなスタッフがめんどくさそうに対応。なんだよ、一体。

昨日は21日のロンドン100クラブでのライブの宣伝の為にロンドン市内を練り歩き。久々の友達の沢山会った。皆、ポスター貼りに協力してくれてありがとう！

i've been to City center of London yesterday with the posters & flyers of our London 100Club show at Sep 21st. i met many my friends and they helped to put some posters on. thank you very much !

元チョモのマネージャーの新井君、写真送って下さい。彼は今会社を辞め、ロンドン留学中。チョモの担当を外れてまで会社に残りたくないと日本の飛び出した男気ある奴。がんばってほしいなあ。

i've met the guy who was the manager of our friend's band called "Qomolangma Tomato". he was quite the record company b/c he was required to quite the management and to promote other artist. nice guy !

そしてGo Teamでギターを弾くカオリちゃんのバイト先を訪ねにカムデンへ。すると路上でばったり15年前にトイズファクトリーで一緒にバイトしてた藤本君と再会。彼は奥さんと湖水地方に旅行に来たらしい。あのメタル大好きで俺に色々教えてくれた彼も今や大学教授（あれ？准教授だったっけ？）。相変わらずなのは俺だけやなあ。

after that i was going to meet Kaori who is the guitarist of Go Team. before that, i met one more old friend coincidently since 8 years.
he is just traveling with his wife The Lake and London. i was working in a record company with him 15years ago. surprised .

さあ、今日はこれからバーミンガムに行ってライブやって来ます。ブラックサバス所縁の地、がんばります。

we are going to Burmingham today. of course there is hometown of Black Sabbath. exciting !

Another crap nights sleep, even though I’m in my own bed & up at 12 for some brekky & blogging before the drive to Mansfield.
オランダからロンドンに戻って自分でベットで寝れたにも関わらず、なんだかうまく寝付けなかったよ。３時出発なのに12時には起きちゃった。
The good people of the Town Mill have kindly added us to the bill of an all dayer which is great as it fills in a day on the tour but also means we can get there really late as there is no soundcheck.
本日のライブ会場、タウンミルでは小さなフェスティバルとして昼間からずっとライブをやっていて、そこになんとか押し込んでもらった訳だけど、そのお陰でリハなし、入りも遅いってわけ。
The Town Mill is in an old Water Mill. Eel Shock have not been here for 7 years though James 2 is something of a veteran having played a bunch of shows here with the A + E Line.
イールショックは７年前にここでやったらしいけど、ジェームズ２は自分でバンドでなんどもここに来てるらしい。

We arrive at about 7pm & go straight out for some very ordinary scoff in a Yate’s pub down the road. Back to the venue & the timetable has started to drift & it looks like we might not be on til midnight. As it is a school night we decide not to headline & move down the bill to make sure that people don’t go home before we play.
我々は７時ぐらいに到着し、まずチェーン店のYATE'Sというパブでまあ、ごく普通の食事。ベニューに戻ってみるとかなり押してる様子。10時の出番予定がこのままでは深夜になっちゃいそう。次の日は平日だし、せっかく来たんだから客が帰る前にやろうとトリを辞退。そのまま10時に出演と相成りました。
It is not a huge crowd but they are really enthusiastic so we have a good show & it is great to see Samurai Mark again...especially as we rope him in to sell merch again!...well, he does it so well haha!
特別めっちゃ人入ってたという訳ではないけど、かなり熱心なファンが来てて、かなり盛り上がったね。そして以前物販を売るのを手伝ってくれてたサムライ・マークが来てくれた。ってそのまま物販を手伝ってもらった。人手が足らなくて悪いね！
After the show we had planned to crash out in the venue but as the show has woken me up & I didn’t like the look of the road works on the M1 (would have made daytime driving very slow) we decide to head for London.
そのままベニューに泊めてもらう予定だったけど、まだライブが続いてたのと、来る時の高速道路、M1が工事渋滞してたのを見てたから、そのまま帰る事にしたよ。
Back to Kennington for 4am which now gives us two clear days off in London...can you guess what Aki is going to do?
そして飛ばして４時にロンドンに到着。これで翌日は完全オフになった。勿論アキが何するかわかるよね？

Having wasted 12 years of my life putting food on trains I still sometimes have to pinch myself to realise that this is what I do for a living now & with a bit of luck will continue to do.
はーい、ツアマネ、ダンです。12年間も列車に弁当詰め込む仕事で人生を無駄にしてしまったけど、少々危なくても今の仕事にとても満足。なんかこれ始めてからラッキーな事が続いてる気がする。やっぱり人間好きな事するとですよ。
It is days like this that make me realise what a great decision that was. Everything about Dynamo from the crew, to the crowd to the catering was brilliant. It is my first big proper grown up festival too so very exciting.
特に今日のような日は自分の人生の決断が如何に素晴らしかったかって感じますぞ。このダイナモフェスはフェスのスタッフから観客、ケータリングまで何もかも素晴らしく、ちゃんとしたフェスティバルでの初仕事、めっちゃ興奮してます。
We arrive a little early so pull up with the other bands transport outside. Use your skill & judgement to work out which of these vehicles we are travelling in.
ちょっと早く着いたので、他の車両と並んで会場の外に駐車。勿論、今までの経験上どれがEESの機材車かわかるよね？？

We have a cuppa in a local cafe then meet up with Carolein our awesome artist liaison person who sorts out all the backstage, food & drink stuff for us.
しばらくカフェでお茶飲んでから、僕らの担当キャロラインに連れられ、食事やドリンクが待つ楽屋へ。
At about three we head off to load in & set up on the mainstage.  I run in to an engineer that I know from London so try to talk like I know what I’m doing, he’s doing Onslaught immediately after us.
３時からメインステージ裏でセッティング開始。ミキシング卓に行って、ロンドンから来たエンジニアと打ち合わせ。彼はEESの後、Onslaughtというバンドを担当するらしい。
The show itself goes really well & we are probably the last band to play without rain...a huge storm is forecast for later but by then we will be well on our way to Calais.
EESのショーは素晴らしかった！そして多分この後また雨が降って来たこと考えたら良い出番だったね。この後、台風注意報が出てたようだけど、カレイまでのドライブの間は大丈夫だったね。

Our booking agent Kevin finally arrives halfway through the show...his van broke down on the way...well, it is an EES tour so someone had to do it!
オランダのブッキングエージェント、ケヴィンが遅れてやって来た。彼の車も故障したとの事。ホント、EESのツアーでは皆そうなるよ。
The band sell merch for a while & then we get really well fed before heading off for the long drive to Calais.
ライブ終了後、バンドが物販売ってから、素晴らしいディナー。そしてすぐイギリスに戻るフェリーに乗る為にフランスのカレイへ４時間ドライブ。
The UK has, in the last couple of years introduced a new & complicated visa system for non EU citizens & there has been a bit of panic over the last few weeks as we have not been really sure that Aki & Kazuto have the right papers to come in for the UK tour.
ここ数年、イギリスのヴィザ法の改正に伴い、EESのワークパーミット問題も勃発。一度ちゃんと取得してるものの、どれが正解なのかわからなくなってるのがちょっと心配。
At the ferry port we get pulled over & taken to the immigration room. It turns out we were right, strictly speaking they don’t have the right visas!! Fortunately we have decided in advance that honesty is the best policy & having explained exactly what has happened over the last couple of weeks they agree to let us in. Actually a very nice bunch of people (not something you hear every day about UK immigration!)  who always seemed inclined to give us the benefit of the doubt so this wasn’t nearly as stressful as it sounds.
フェリー乗り場で入国審査に直行。そしてやはり以前取得したヴィザがやはり期限切れであった事が判明！しかしちゃんとした事情説明と新たなシステムのエラー問題とで無事入国許可。最近かなり評判の悪いUK入国管理だけど、ここの入国管理官は良い人たちで思ったより心配せずにすんだよ。
The ferry is slightly delayed as it is blowing a gale in the channel but we are on our way at 1.20am & celebrate with a huge cup of the PG.
フェリーが天候不順で少し遅れたこともあって1:20にフェリーに乗り込み。PGティップスのどでかいカップで祝杯。やはりイギリス最高！

On the way back into London on a route I must have driven a hundred times I somehow manage to get us lost briefly but we are still back at Pye Towers for 4ish where we have another cuppa & Aki tops up his blood alcohol level before crashing out.
疲れすぎた為か、今まで何千回と通ってる道をなぜだか間違えながら、それでもなんとか４時頃パイ・タワーに到着。あ、ヨーロッパ時間だったらもう５時過ぎてる。そしてもう一杯ティーを飲んで就寝。アキは勿論アルコール摂取してたけどね。

さあ、ヨーロッパツアー再び！ツアマネ、ダン再び参上。皆様、おげんこ？
Wednesday night I take a tube over to Mile End to pick up the van & spend far too long learning of the triumph of Mr Slayer’s Comedy stylings in Edinburgh (he got nominated for an award!) so that I am not home ‘til well past bed time & have to be up at 4 to meet Aki & Kazuto at Heathrow.
水曜の夜に地下鉄でボブスレイヤー宅に機材車をピックアップ。またしてもスレイヤー氏の栄えあるコメディー賞へのノミネート話等で引き止められ、４時にアキとカズトをヒースローに迎えに行くのにまた３時間ほどしか寝られなくなっちゃった。
Having done that we return to Pye Towers where before I’ve even brewed up the first PG Tips of the tour (yes, that AGAIN!!)  Aki & Kazuto are on line...Jeez, what happened to the art of conversation!
空港から私のお城、パイ・タワーに戻り、まずPGティップスでツアー最初のティーを入れる。なんといつもコーヒーしか興味ない二人もティーを選択。なんてこと！彼らももうすぐ英国紳士。
James 2 will be covering the kicks & knocks again on this tour so the band convene at a rehearsal studio in Denmark St in the afternoon while I listen to the cricket & finish me book (John Le Carre – Absolute Friends, highly recommended like all his stuff really).
今回は久々にドラマーとしてジェームズ２がツアーに参加。その為、彼らは２時間仮眠した後、デンマークStのリハーサルスタジオへ。その間、僕ぁ、ゆっくりクリケットの実況をラジオで聞きながら読書。（ジョン・ルカレの「アブソリュート・フレンズ」この人は全作品お勧めだよ。）
It’s an early start again the next day as we have a 9am ferry from Harwich. 7 dull & for Kazuto at least, nauseating hours later we arrive in Holland & head for our old stomping ground of De Bliksem cafe in Den Helder...this is James 2’s 5th visit having played here with EES, the mighty Sludgefeast  and the A + E Line.
翌朝も４時起床で9時発のフェリーに乗りにハーウィッチへ。７時間も船に揺られ、カズトは結構船酔いしたようだね。無料のWi-Fiが飛んでたからなんとか凌げたけど長かったー。オランダ到着後、２時間ほどドライブして北の港町、Den Helderの名物ロック・バー、De Bliksemへ。EESも前に一度やってるが、ジェームズ２は他に自分のバンド、SlugdefeastとA+E Lineで計５回もやってるみたい。

Eel Shock’s old friend (& landlord!) Wayne is in attendance & a good night is had by all...possibly too good a night in the case of James & Wayne who seem a little under the weather next morning. Fortunately we have a late show time today so it is a fairly leisurely start with a cup of char in a cafe before sorting out the merch & packing the van for Akkerpop.
EESの長年の友達で大家だったこともあるウェインがアムステルダムから駆けつけてくれて、皆楽しい一夜を過ごせたようだね。多分、ウェインとジェームズは楽しすぎて次の日の天気のように曇りがち（二日酔い）のようだったけど。幸いな事に次の日は夜12時の出番なのでゆっくりお茶飲んで、物販の整理等する時間があってありがたかったね。
We drop Wayne in Amsterdam & then check in to our hotel. Akkerpop is in Hoogstraaten which is just over the Belgian border but the hotel is 8 K away in Holland.

車で仲良く居眠りする二人。えさを待つひな鳥みたいですな。

ウェインをアムステルダムに送り届け、ベルギーへ。本日のフェス、Akkerpopはベルギーとの国境近くのHoogstraatenで開催されてるが、ホテルは８kmオランダに戻った所だった。
The fest is in a little park in the middle of a residential area, amazing they can get a licence! There are two stages, one on the back of a truck which we are booked to headline & a second stage (luckily as it turns out) in a tent.
フェスの会場は住宅地のど真ん中の小さい公園。よく許可得れたもんだねえ！皆夏休みでどっか行ってたのか？ちゃんと２ステージあって、一つはトラックの荷台を使ったヘッドライナー用の野外ステージとテントステージだった。このテントステージがあって本当に良かったよ。

We get fed & watered & then catch the set from Monotonix. I have heard great things about their stage show & they don’t disappoint running around all over the field taking their drum kit with them. All this done in the rain and in their pants...good stuff.
バックステージはテントが一つあるだけで、なんもなく寒い！出前のピザを食した後、前に出るイスラエルのMonotonixのライブを観戦。アメリカでも評判になってるこのバンド、キングブラザースやワッツーシゾンビのようにステージ使わずフロアにドラムを設置して、ピーランダーZのように動き回り、ダイブしまくり。もうドラムセットも1曲終わるごとに会場全体を移動しまくる。雨の中、何故かメンバー全員、短パン。素晴らしかった！

We set up & sound check but then the heavens open & it tips it down with rain. There is talk of delaying our set but as the rain seems set in we make the decision to up sticks & move to the tent. The organisers seem impressed at how flexible we are but in reality I think everyone is actually happier to be on the smaller stage, there is a better atmosphere in there & I think the sound system is better too.
次いでEESがセットアップを終えると同時に小雨だった雨がかなりキツくなって来た。そして急遽そのまま機材をテントステージに運び、そちらで演奏する事に。主催者は我々の柔軟な対応に感心してたが、正直皆にとってその方が良かったからね。テントステージの方が雨に打たれる事なく観れるし、サウンドシステムもそっちの方が良かったよ。
We sound check (again) quickly & launch in to Out of Control. Being a festival it is not really an Eel Shock crowd but it is great to see that as the set progresses they are getting more & more in to it. As Aki said afterwards it was not really a night for the more complicated songs but fortunately there are a lot of the poppier/ punkier things in the set tonight & this goes down great with a seriously drunk & happy crowd.
ステージ移動後、再びチェックして即座に「Out Of Control」をぶちかまし。正直EESを知らない客ばっかりだったようだけど、曲を重ねるごとに皆がステージに注目するようになって行くのが後ろからよくわかったね。アキは聴かせる曲を望んでない暴れたい客が多かったから厳しかったと言ってたけど、「No Shit Sherlock」や後半のメタルの曲に飲みに来てるだけの奴らも、すごくよく反応してたよ。
After the show we wade through the mud to pack up the van...Aki’s Puma’s are no longer quite so ‘Super’...then head back to the hotel. We have an early stage time at Dynamo tomorrow so time to get some kip.
ライブ終了後、泥んこになりながら機材車に機材を積み込み。アキのプーマももはや「スーパー」プーマじゃなくなっちゃったね。明日はオランダに戻ってダイナモフェス。出番が早いからもう寝なきゃ。

只今ドーバー海峡横断フェリーの船上からアップデートです。

 

今日は少し荒れ模様のドーバー。

大したもんじゃございませんが少しうねりが入っているからねぇ。

今、横のちびっ子がレジ袋を口に当てお母さんと一緒にトイレに走っていきました。

かわいそう…。

 

そりゃ、鈍感な前川が「気分悪い…。」と呟くくらいやからねぇ…。

 

でも、ボクは伊達に船舶免許を持ったキャプテンではないのだよ！

こんな波はヘッチャラブー！

携行している釣具の仕度、SFノットにビミニツイスト…。

滞りなくこなしたので今は“縫い針に糸を通しては抜く”を繰り返し中。

でも、どうやっても酔わんわぁ…。

海の男！！！！

 

で、「海の男」は「海のおサルさん」と仲良くなりました。

 

では今回のEUツアー記念すべき1本目の会場に向かいます。

ヨーロッパツアーに向け貧乏バンド在籍のボクは乗り継ぎ便でイギリスへ。

その経由地香港で汚いおっさんベーシストと一緒に飛行機を待っているところです。

香港ではまだ一言も会話してません！

ああ、気がついたら14日のN'夙川ボーイズのレコ発ライブの事も、昨日まで関西ツアーの事も書かずに、機上の人となり香港で乗り継ぎ待ちでございます。気がついたら社長もダンもブログを更新してくれてます。す、すみません。
